As we begin a new year of swimming, we want to ensure that all swimmers and parents are familiar with the practices we have in place to provide a safe and fun swimming environment. We are fortunate to have a Safe Sport presenter from Via Sport BC to come to talk to our swimmers, parents, and coaches.

The Safe Sport seminars will address the following topics (at the appropriate level for the audience) to help swimmers and parents to:

  • Understand they are empowered to speak up for themselves (e.g., if they are injured, uncertain, or being forced to do something they don’t want to)

  • Recognize that a kid's worth is not determined by sporting success or set backs

  • Know who they can talk to if needed and to advocate for themselves

  • Know what to expect from coaches and the ‘rules’ coaches will abide by

  • Recognize inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour from other swimmers, parents, or coaches and what to do about it

All swimmers and parents are required to attend their designated session on Septembe 21.

While the program is mandatory for all club members, we do understand that some of you will have prior commitments that prevent you from attending. In that case, you will be required to complete an online training session.
