Sea Wolves Open Invitational Meet

Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, 2024

  • All volunteers except those on set-up and tear-down are needed from 12:00 pm until the end of the meet (approximately 6:00 pm).

  • Set-up and tear-down volunteers need to be at the pool from 11:30-12:30 pm and from 5:30-6:30 pm.

  • Shorts and flips-flops are a good idea—you are likely to get at least a little wet.

  • Refreshments will be available but it would be a good idea to bring some water.

  • Details of the different volunteer roles are at the bottom of this page.

Volunteer Roles

1. Referee/Starter (1)
Starts each event. *Training required.

2. Electronics (1)
Manages the meet using Meet Manager software. *Training required.

3. Electronics Assistant (1)
Assists with managing the meet using Meet Manager software. *Previous experience required.

4. Clerk of Course (1)

5. Chief Timekeeper (1)

6. Food (2)
Organizes and serves snacks to the volunteers on the pool deck.

7. Marshalls (2)
Organize swimmers into their race groups on the pool deck to minimize time between races.

8. Stroke & Turn (8)
Work in pairs on each side of the pool, ruling on infractions on their side of the pool only. They observe strokes, turns, and finishes to see that swimmers comply with requirements for that stroke. *Training is required for this position. There will be a free training clinic on Friday, May 26, 2023, in the evening, for anyone who is interested. We strongly recommend this clinic to all parents of competitive swimmers.

9. Timekeepers (12)
Record the swimmers’ times. Each timekeeper is provided with a stopwatch and assigned a lane. Two timers are assigned to each lane. Both times are recorded and the average time becomes the official time. This job gives you a good view of the pool and swimmers during their races.

10. Set-Up & Tear Down (3)
Set up the pool area for the swim meet and return the pool area to its previous state at the end of the meet. *There may be heavy lifting.

11. Greeter (2)
Greet meet attendees as they enter MPSC and direct them as necessary.

12. Ribbons & Results (2)
As results of races come in, print labels and affix them to ribbons which are then given to club coaches to award to their swimmers.
